Khaosan is a funky (not in the bad way) hostel-slash-ryokan in the heart of vibey Asakusa. There are dorms, double rooms and family rooms – all at reasonable rates.
It’s a fusion of old Japanese hospitality with modern Tokyo styling – the spacious rooms are brightly coloured and feature quirky decorations. Did we mention it’s a renovated love hotel? That should explain a lot.
Some people (we’re not saying who) like to book a different room each time they pass through Tokyo, in the spirit of seeing them all. Sort of like Pokemon. Except not.
This is the quirkiest of the Khaosan hotels – which is a chain of over 12 branches. In our opinion, this one is the best.
There is a shared kitchen, free wifi, a laundry service, and luggage storage at the hostel. There is also a bar with live music, and a games room, if the surrounding sights aren’t enough for you. If you’re a mellow type, the yoga and prayer room might be up your alley.
